T’was a wonderful weekend, always is when you have an extra day, great weather and special date time with your bestie!
Saturday was a lot of running kids around to various escapades, but I also ended up with a few hours to kill and went thrifting and had a super successful go at it.
Had my birthday dinner of pizza and salad from our fave pizza placed followed by cheesecake for dessert.
Mass and beach with most of the fam on Sunday. Followed by burgers and dogs on the grill and more cheesecake (the big girl had a culinary project and DARN IT, we had an extra 1/2 of cheesecake to eat. The sacrifices we make for our kids, right?
Sweetness from the kids and time with Hubs….the year is off to a blessed and happy start!
Woman, you lost it. You’ve got enough candles on that cake to burn down the whole flippin’ house and you celebrate? Yup. 44 and totally going to enjoy it. Life’s too short, people. So, imma gonna seize the WHOLE day. And join in Jen for some Quick Takes. Because I can. So, enjoy….my
Lemmee take a selfie….straight out of bed, fresh cut yesterday…love new ‘do…or same ‘do, fresh cut.
I took the day off today (and so did Hubs) and our sweet little sicky who I blogged about yesterday, had a miraculous healing!! Woot, woot!!! Happy birthday to ME!!! Off to school, my little cherub. I know, totally crazy and selfish move, right? Well, that’s how I roll around here as evidenced by the FIRST BIRTHDAY I have ever even taken the day off for (that I remember anyway….things are a little foggy sometimes….send gingko wouldya?). Anyhooooo, as I enjoyed my morning coffee of
I spied this little loveliness on the back porch.
New plants! And new pots!! Be still my heart. Sweet Hubs. Totally rocked it!!
A card and chocolate, too??? What the??? He is totally racking up Hubby points, here.
Of course I still have Facebook to keep up with today (such fun all those birthday wishes, worth holding off purging the list for a while), several early texts and phone calls (since I’m off I can actually talk on the phone today….unless I’m in the pool or riding my bike on the beach…) and then this awesome pile of snail mail to savor later!!
Love cards. And presents. It’s my love language.
Yesterday at work my awesome work peeps had a chip and dip celebration followed by jello cake topped with cool whip. Homemade crab dip and Hand chopped with love and claw inducing mango salsa by my bestie work bud!) Delicious, it was breakfast and lunch….
But, lest you think it’s all awesome food, no responsibilities, flowers and chocolate….I’m still a Mama and regular life still goes on. And it’s all good!!
In honor of MY birthday, I am showing an act of mercy and doing the boy’s laundry. Told you I am a selfish B….just keepin’ it real!
The best laid plans come to a screeching halt when the school nurse calls with a vomiting kiddo in her office.
Fortunately, Popop to the rescue with a quick pick up and chill out time on his couch until mom picks up the little pukey miss on her way to her hair appointment (on lunch break).
Dropped her off at home to rest and then checked on her after hair appointment, set her up with saltines, powerade, water bottle, TV remotes, telephone and garbage bucket.
Back to work to relieve for lunch and see if I could tough it out, but between the horrendous weather and the very sad panda at home, I left early with my friend’s blessing, picked up biggest boy from the bus stop, was able to tend to sickey girl and then picked up the middle schoolers while dropping of the big guy for work.
Soo…..yeah, the awesome date birthday with the Hubs…..looks like we might have company.
Hoping all the Mamas had a fabulous Mother’s day!!!
My weekend was a curiosity of lots of downtime and productivity. I was without a car most of the day on Saturday at home so I was able to get lots of stuff done around the house (after I grocery shopped nice and early) and had a ridiculous amount of time to read and chill and THEN go to our supper club in the evening. Nice. But weird. It’s hard to slow down, isn’t it??? I mean we are used to going all out, all the time and then when its not…..it’s hard to switch gears.
Mother’s Day was lovely. Mass. Sweet kids. Helpful kids. Free breakfast at church after Mass. Dinner was made for me by my guys AND cleaned up. When I think about what a tough day it is for a lot of women, I know that I’ve got it good with no legitimate complaints.
On the flip side of the coin, I bought NO Mother’s Day cards this year. My favorite Hallmark store closed and well….it’s just not the same. So, my sister was in charge of flowers for Mom this year (she did a GREAT job!) and I hand delivered flowers to my Mother-in-law (since my Hubby had to work) and my grandmother and called my dad’s wife and my other grandmother…..which I am sure they appreciated more that a card, right?
Today, it’s back to reality…..Monday morning blues…..and looking forward to a 4 day work week because I TOOK FRIDAY OFF FOR MY BIRTHDAY!!! AND SO DID MY HUBS. AND THE KIDS ARE STILL IN SCHOOL!!!!!
A friend of mine asked that question of ME last week. ha. Short answer: I don’t know. It just gets done.
Longer answer: But by the grace of God. By the skin of my teeth and by being in a constant state of chaos. Controlled chaos, mind you….but chaos. And my girlfriends…..they are all right there with me whether they stay at home or work outside the home, it’s a constant go…go…go..gooooooo.
Case in point:
This morning, up at 4:30 to hit the 5:15 a.m. Spin class. Crazy. yes, I know. But it’s only twice a week and I just can’t make the p.m. classes. So. Up and at ’em.
Come home, get kids going, shower, make breakfast and lunch, decide on dinner and out the door at 7:15.
Work. or the easiest part of my day…if you call 50 patients between 8 and 4 (who the HECK does our scheduling anyway?!?!?! )…fortunately, I enjoy my patients and co-workers so it makes the day a little easier.
Lunch will be post office, making phone calls to the insurance company (ridic to the Nth degree of how much I am fighting them for reimbursement. of money I am due. for a product I have already paid for. super close to hollering fraud. super. close) and any other personal errands I can squeeze in the hour.
Off at 4:30, taxi duty, dinner prep and then the girls and I will sit down to catch up on Once Upon a Time–since they were way too tired on Sunday.
So. There. That’s how I do it. Just like everyone else. Carry on, people. Carry on!
