Mass Snapshot

Day one of a seven-day stretch of blogging fun/torture/chaos with Jennifer Fulwiler and frenz….let’s see I clocked in at about 100 or so, enough blog reading to last a while I’d say.  So stay tuned all week-long.

Sunday night:  Brainstorm #1  Our family Mass snapshot

IMG_4697

*not our regular church, this is the local Basilica. Beautiful church.

Funny how church life mimics life in its constantly changing routine.  When the kids were little we tried the cry room, the right up front, occasional staggering of Mass, etc, etc, until we found our fit.  With each child things mixed up again and then settled and repeat.  Now that we (mostly) get through Mass without  major drama and meltdowns….hahaha, who am I kidding?  There’s always someone with an issue, but we aren’t wrestling in the pews anymore, everyone knows how to whisper or just zip it and the general decorum expected at Mass is upheld.  Just as we hit our rhythm once again…it changes.  Again.  le sigh.

At the moment we are at a stage in our family life that we are splitting up Masses.  It’s so NOT my favorite season, but for now, we do what we have to do….and it IS just a season.  Hubby is working with my brother-in-law on Sundays –good for the BIL and good for our family as we work toward debt reduction, but a total bummer on Sunday morning family Mass.  Our 12-year-old is earning volunteer hours so she’s been hitting the Saturday vigil Mass with Dad so she can volunteer with the PreK crew at the 9 a.m. Mass. Our youngest son plays his horn in the 9 a.m. Sunday Mass and both girls have Religious Ed. following 9 a.m. Sunday Mass.  Which finds us all over the place, people.  All.  Over.  The.  Place.  We have been TRYING for a twice monthly Mass on Saturdays for all of us, however, realistically we’ve probably averaged once a month.  Just keep tryin’;  it’s only a season.  My mantra.

Sunday morning’s Mass was funny because with only our youngest and I present, we sat in the front row because she informed me that she only takes the precious blood if less than 10 people go before her.  She counts.  Everytime.  Front pew made us #1 and #2, so today was body and blood.  For the win.

My favorite priest (retired and 90) was there today and in wrapping up Mass he analogized today’s homily message on forgiveness, Agape love and the gospel readings with his disappointment in Ireland’s rugby showing in England recently (in his Irish brogue), “I may love my English neighbors, but I don’t have to like them.”  Funny.  True.

What’s YOUR church snapshot?

Blessings on the week ahead!

When your stats flatline

August 31st, people. August 31.  Summer is over.  We shall be soaking it up here at Casa E with my sister and fam this weekend, hopefully in the pool and beach (assuming the weather is going to cooperate) and sleeping in and NOT.  GOING.  TO.  WORK.  ON.  MONDAY.  (Thank you Congress, class of 1894! and President Grover Cleveland!)

It’s also a short break after 2 whole weeks in school.  Whew.  Exhausting.  After Monday, those who haven’t started school will join in the fun.  So far so decent in our house, but I haven’t hit my new routine yet.  And….by the look of my stats, my blogging has taken a hit.  It happens when you don’t blog.  I’m still looking for the elusive extra hours in the day and until I find them, I’ll be flatlining over here.

That BIG spike is my road-trip-friends post. I should write about my friends more!!!

I’d like to join in with JEN and Co. with 7 Quick Takes, but it’s just not going to happen this week.  Until I get it together this will suffice.  Now…..today I have a football game to get to, maybe I’ll get another post or two ahead this long weekend, see how it goes!  Wish me luck and happy looooooong weekend to you!!!

7QTs, Blog Challenge version

It’s Friday people and not ONLY is it my FAVORITE day of the week….seriously….favorite!!!  It’s also 7Quick Takes link up with JEN ANNNNNNNNND day 5 of the blog for 7 days challenge with JEN.  It’s been a good week of blogging, I mean hey, my daily views are up to at least 20 average everyday….don’t hate….it’s also forcing me to sit down and blog…short and sweet or not, the point is to blog!  Here’s my weekly wrapup:

  1. Leaving in a few minutes to get my workout on.  My rear end is still sore from Wednesday so hoping for limited lunges and squats.  **update:  watch what you wish for, we used the TRX and hit the WHOLE bod, especially arms.  My forearms are dead…typing will be a problem today.  OY.
  2. Family rosary last night.  Perfect?  Nay.  Not even close.  Improvement?  Vast.  Continue?  But of course!!
  3. Hubs and our youngest boy are planning on kayaking this evening.  Hoping the afternoon thunderstorms cooperate and allow this quality time activity/male bonding time.
  4. Oldest boy and myself are heading on a little road trip to our old town tomorrow for a surprise birthday party for my dear friend’s 16-year-old son.  I’ve promised him driving time ON THE INTERSTATE, Starbucks, a trip to the Vans store for school shoes and Old Navy to finish up his school shopping for pants.  After all, he IS giving up 2 WHOLE  days of skateboarding…..
  5. I napped before dinner yesterday.  30 minutes.  Rest/nap.  GLORIOUS.  Can’t even tell you the difference it made in my evening.  Uninterrupted recharging after a day at work before starting evening activities  Highly recommend it!
  6. Started re-logging my food for the day.  <smh> the hardest thing about me eating healthy and exercising is the diet portion.  Not BEING on a diet…just PLANNING the meals and LOGGING the intake.  When I am consistent in these things, along with my exercise….success.  Why?  Is?  It?  So?  Hard?????  **on the upside, one of my friends from the gym has been my tracking accountability partner and is down 5 pounds….now my competitive juices are flowing!!
  7. Finished up my 5th Ginger Garrett book in 3 weeks and started Mere Christianity last night.  This should have been linked to Cari and Jessica for “What we are reading Wednesdays” but….better late than never?!

Have a great weekend.  I’m off to sweat!!  Now to shower and get the ball rolling for FRIDAY!!!  Happy Weekend and keep those blogs rolling!

Day 1. Bloggy challenge. GO!

I love me a good challenge.  I am a goal-oriented person.  Run a marathon?  Just tell me how much and when to run.  Graduate with Bachelor’s degree 10 years later while working and raising up young’uns?  Just tell me which classes I need and when.  So on and so on.  You get the picture.  Give me a goal and watch me go; no goal and watch me flounder.  This week, Jen Fulwiler (you know, blogger, former atheist, reality star, momma, home schooler and scorpion hater) has thrown down the gauntlet of blogging daily.  One whole week.  Monday to Sunday.  I’m a sucker and picked up the gauntlet.  I am not alone, merely one among many….so check us out and let’s see what the week holds!

Last night, I took my turn in bringing my son and his friends to Orlando to participate in Parkour at a cheer gym.  I’ve managed to get out of this one hour drive (one way) for several months now.  Since the event is for 3 hours I had to find something to do; enter Barnes and Noble.  My caffe latte, cheesecake (oh YES I did), laptop and reading material enjoyed 2 hours of reading, writing and surfing the net.  Bliss.  I may drive again next weekend.  (I kid, I kid)  Therefore, with all that time to myself I was able to quickly brainstorm some posts for the week with pen and paper and ready myself for the week.  Win-win!

That said, getting home and in bed around 1 a.m. (FAR past my bedtime) and up for 9 a.m. Mass necessitated a little nap this afternoon, next time I think we’ll hit the Saturday vigil Mass before we head over.

Before you head over to Jen for more focused thinking/writing/blogging enjoy this psycho Instavid from Parkour I shot.  Of course, now that I know to HOLD THE BUTTON DOWN (unlike regular video shooting) my next one will be a little less manic!  HA!

May-hem…the gardening version

Friday again and that brings us to Jen (who’s got a publisher!!!!!! for her book!!!!) and her peeps.  Can you say book tour???  Yes.  Yes, I can!!  Of course, let’s let her enjoy her newborn and finish up this crazy little month of MAY!

And with the craziness of May…what WAS I thinking of pulling off the annual “Every day in May” blog-a-thon again?  I totally and completely retract that post, statement and thought.  It’s been a big fat FAIL, in fact, this QT is basically consisting of photos of our garden and spring in full bloom here.  Check ’em out and if you have some tips for us…throw ’em out in the comment section…(I do LOVE some comments) because we are mostly winging it in the gardening arena!!!

Without further ado about nothin’…..our garden (otherwise known as “Who knew Hubby had a green thumb” AKA “How will we know when it’s ready for harvest”).  Enjoy!

I hope these babies do as well as last year….MAN we had cucumbers every other day!!

IMG_4417

Lettuce. I guess it’s ready when it’s bigger?

IMG_4418

Peas. Experimenting. They are almoooooooooost hooking up with the lattice to climb.

IMG_4419

And….yeah, not really sure when to pluck these. Clearly not yet…but…..yeah, not sure when.

IMG_4420

We’re not even sure WHERE the broccoli is going to show up. Another fun experiment, because we can eat some broccoli around here!!

IMG_4421

Disregard the weeds that we need to yank, but that isn’t grass folks….and sadly, I don’t really remember WHAT kind of onion it was….I’m leaning toward green onion, because I do enjoy those. Hmmm, time will tell.

IMG_4422

No explanation needed. These did well last year. We got a little flooding last weekend and spotted a few (unwelcome) visitors, so they’ll be getting the Sevin treatment tomorrow….and hope for the best!

IMG_4423

check out those ITTY, BITTY oranges!!!! First year we’ve had ANY sign of life out of this tree. Super excited!!

IMG_4424

For kicks, we figured what did we have to lose except a little part of the yard that does nothing!

IMG_4425

My hydrangea!!! First year of blooms since I planted it two years ago!!! Looks like the flowers will be pink! LOVE. THIS. PLANT!!

And so that was more than 7….I know….it’s been a long week!  Thanks for humoring me 🙂

Have a blessed weekend !!
