Love me some Saturday mornings!

The one day a week that waking up at any specific time is optional.  Purely optional.  Lie in with Hubby.  Wake up and get the day going.  No plan.  It’s the one day a week I actually enjoy getting up while it’s still dark…..because I don’t HAVE to!

This morning was no different.  Hubby and I chatted while waking with no hurry to get ready for work.  Enjoyed coffee in the dark living room while the sun slowly rose gently lighting the room through the open shades.  70-ish degrees Fahrenheit, breezy, NO humidity.  Pure awesomeness.

Hubby did his deal this morning and I took a great walk while the kids were still sleeping.  Before I pay bills.  Before I go grocery shopping.  Before the day gets rockin’ and rollin’!

You can’t feel the breeze or smell the flowers, but hopefully you enjoy the pictures! (I did my best to name all the plants….always leaving room for error)

This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it!  Psalm 118:24

And you can head out and see what all the other May bloggers are up to!

I should make better use of insomnia

It’s Friday, folks; that means it’s time to wrap up the week with a pretty little bow and join in with all the regular Conversion Diary folks—-this week @ Hallie Lord’s blog and see what the rest of the world has been up to!

  1. I was able to get good workouts in this week.  Although my friend and I didn’t get our acts together until Thursday to work out TOGETHER, I DID manage to get my 3 strength days in and cardio.  We also added two sets of THIS Men’s Health ab routine on the exercise ball.  All I can say is, it’s been a LONG time since my abs were THIS sore.   I had to modify it a little because I couldn’t come all the way up on my hands for the second exercise, so I stayed on my elbows–my girlfriend further modified by going off the ball, onto the floor in plank position–and STILL, OUCH!  Good stuff!!
  2. End of the year activities are coming to a head.  Our youngest daughter’s school choir performance was Tuesday.  It was sweet.  And packed.  A joint venture with the high school and middle school it was a full 90 minutes!  Even though it was a packed auditorium and our seats were not so awesome, it was quite enjoyable.
  3. My mom is in town!  Yay!!  And my sister comes next weekend!!  Hoping to have my mom and my aunt and grandmother over for dinner Sunday night…but I’m Queen of Procrastination so I’ll call them later and set it up….
  4. I DID purchase Mother’s Day cards AND some May birthday presents AHEAD of time, completely contradictory of my procrastination.  Now I just need to send them out today and I’ll be good to go with a strong chance of them making their destination (mostly local) by tomorrow!!
  5. I did not get good sleep last night.  Highly unusual for me.  I woke at sometime after midnight and thought I had a text from our son (who was sleeping)–I wasn’t quite awake yet..and after that I tossed and turned for the remainder of the evening.  At one point reasoning with myself that I should just get up and do those Mother’s Day cards, pay bills, sign permission slips and make lunches since I was up anyway….. I opted out and stayed in bed.  Probably the better choice!
  6. I came across THIS ARTICLE in the National Catholic Register by Matthew Archbold regarding Nancy Pelosi and her statement that her Catholic faith compels her to support same-sex marriage.  Now while I know this is controversial (and I HATE conflict), everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I have yet to come across ANY thing Catholic or Christian that supports SSM.  She must have a different copy of the Catechism than I do…
  7. Our garden is growing, our garden is growing.  OK. Hubby’s garden, he did/does all the work.  But….our garden is growing!!  Starting small this year to experiment, tomatoes and cucumbers and YAY!!!
Dont’ forget to head over to Hallie’s blog and catch up with the other Quick Take Peeps, AND our little May challenge bloggers as well!

Bon-Bon Tuesday

My workout partner bailed on me this morning.  (payback for yesterday….hmmmm…nah.)  Probably a good thing, because we did opposite body parts yesterday and that was going to make for a tricky workout, by Thursday we’ll be good!  So, I ‘ll hit it again at lunch today, which is fine by me.

Rather than go back to bed, I had my bon-bon time this morning.  Catching up on blogs.  Sending out a couple of emails.  Chatting with Hubby.  And you watch, somehow I will still end up running late this morning.  <sigh>

Yesterday, I was listening to a podcast by Pat Gohn and she was talking about “social tithing” and rethinking how we come across this vast internet and the “what if” we gave 1/10 of our social media time, tweets, status updates, blogs, etc to God.  A grateful tweet.  A shout out to God.

Then a friend posted on Facebook, “Break my heart for what breaks Yours”.

And I’ve been chewing on it subconsciously.  I think (I hope) it showed in enjoying the time with Hubby and the girls at the beach last night for an evening “surf practice” and swim session.  And in putting the kids to bed last night.  And in being grateful for the chaos of the morning rush (coming soon).  And in looking forward to the “End-of-the-year” singing concert for our youngest tonight. And in watching old home movies last night.  Much to be thankful and a reminder of priorities and what’s really important.

Before I go though, this quote was in my “Small steps for Catholic Moms” this morning and kind of ties those thoughts together:

The soul which remains attached to anything, even to the least thing, however many its virtues may be, will never arrive at the liberty of the divine union.  It matters little whether a bird be fastened by a stout or slender cord–as long as he does not break it, slender as it may be, it will prevent him from flying freely.”  St. John Chrysostom

Listen to your body….

Or eventually it will give you no choice.  Yesterday, I blogged about my headache.  That was earlier in the day.  After I picked up our girls from Religious Ed. I came home, and promptly got into bed to REALLY get rid of that meddling headache for once and all.  It was about 11:45 a.m.  I briefly said hello to Hubby when he came in to check on me after Mass and the next thing I knew….it was 2:45 p.m.   So much for the day!!!  I had two hours to kill before Mass with the girls @ 5!!  (so we made Pioneer Woman’s cinnamon rolls to continue celebrating our Easter Octave!!)  However, my headache was GONE.  And boy, was I rested!!  I thought I’d have a hard time going to sleep last night, but ZERO problem.  In fact, I was supposed to get up and meet my girlfriend at the gym and after turning off my alarm, fell BACK to sleep for another 90 minutes.  OY!  I’m blaming it on the ceiling fans.  It’s really making sleep phenomenal.  But truly, I obviously needed the sleep and since I didn’t give my body what it needed, it took it anyway.  So beware!!  What are you neglecting YOUR body of?  You might want to tend to those oversights, otherwise the body may just take over and give you no choice.

Have a great day!  Check in with the rest of the May-bloggers and see what they’ve been up to, hopefully they’ve been doing more than sleeping!!

See?  Our cat has NO problem just sleeping whenever he feels like it.  I should take my cue from him!
